The full title for this piece is actually:

"Citizen Chauvelin Adjusts Himself"

but as that won't fit as the deviation title, I'll have to settle for something less potentially crass! (The whole cravat put-down always struck me as a... rather masculine metaphor, ifyaknowhutimean.)

Pencils and inks by hand. Digital colour in Photoshop.

The gorgeous damask pattern is from here:

Everything else is out of my head, for better or worse. I'm still having issues drawing full figures (I start to get lost below the knees, and throw off the whole proportion) but I've started attending figure drawing classes again, so hopefully I'll be able to work through some of those issues. And really, just... practice, practice practice... as they say.

Also, I think --- think! -- I got the period clothing pretty correct here. If anyone has any tips for better accuracy, I'm always happy to learn!

(Sir Percy Blakeney and Citizen Armand Chauvelin are from The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy.)

Oh, so much love for this! I adore the way you've portrayed them and, speaking as a Scarlet Pimpernel fan girl, it's so good to see art about it! Thank you! Lud love you!

Well, sink me! Thank you! I had a lot of fun drawing this. Which reminds me, I need to do more. I don't think I've drawn anything in this style since, well, this piece. Time flies!

Thank you!

And it is a rather lovely shade of red, isn't it? A somewhat... scarlet.. hue...

When does this happen in the book? (Re-reading it right now)

It actually doesn't! Surprisingly. Because the cravat put-down seems to be in at least three of the film adaptations.

Oh good! I felt like I was taking crazy pills. I'm almost to the end and there was no cravat conversation (wasn't looking for one or expecting one) and then I saw this artwork and I thought "Did I just read right past this? WTF?"

Haha, I wondered the same, but it was after finishing the book. When it kept coming up in the films, I assumed it *had* to be in the novel. But. Checked back, and, nope!
